First of all, excellent delivery service from Amazon, product even arrived one day earlier than predicted with standard delivery. Now on to the music. My ears were delighted to hear this gem from my youth that I probably hadn't heard since some time in the 80's when I ditched my trusty Technics turntable for a CD player in their infancy. The 1970's come alive on this CD. Cat Stevens' (Yusuf Islam's) spiritual quest is written all over this work, someone looking for themselves. "Buddha and the Chocolate Box" is very heavy on electric keyboard and angelic female back up voices. After the brass heavy "Foreigner" released one year earlier in 1973, "Buddha and the Chocolate Box" seems like an attempt to return to Cat Stevens previous style but not quite as folky as "Catch Bull at Four".My favorite from "Buddha and the Chocolate Box" is "A Bad Penny" with its harpsichord introduction and lush string arrangements is a kiss off from a spurned lover but a well written and heartfelt one at that."Sun/C79 " is a rock star's explanation to a lovechild of the one night stand that conceived them. Hey, who says the road to enlightenment must be a dull and lonely one?Perhaps my least favorite song on "Buddha and the Chocolate Box" was the single "Oh Very Young". While this was the single and considered radio friendly it is just "too sweet" for my taste.I remember "Buddha and the Chocolate Box" being about the last Cat Stevens release that was listenable. The artist was going through a heavy time personally and I think his music suffered for it at that point. I highly recommend "Buddha and the Chocolate Box", overall I find the music light and uplifting. Thanks Cat Stevens for sharing your journey with us and I am glad you found what you were looking for.
